April 09, 2011

Be it hats or tied up buns, spikey chains or skull pendants; feathery bags or wooden clutches, pointy or drop down shoulders; the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 saw the coolest trends being showcased on the runway. Read about what the three coolest trends are

The Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 saw an explosion of the creative juices by the designers, both upcoming and established. Some brought to the runway élan juxtaposed with creativity while some brought simplicity with a twist. There were also some who took the rebellious way and what turned out was their best collection—take Manish Malhotra for example—his collection that comprised of traditional Indian wear adorned with Chikankari work and Kashmiri embroidery was sheer and pure magic, or even Sabah Khan’s collection titled ‘Tuk Tuk’ (another name for Rikshawala) that was a quirky and fun collection.
Here are some of the trends noticed at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011:

HEADGEAR: Reminding of Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland, Little Shilpa’s collection inspired by the poem ‘Fleurs Du Mal (Flowers of Evil)’, and Masaba Gupta’s collection ‘Straight from my Soul’ showcased a few urban-turbans.
Apart from this, there were designers like Manas Dash whose hats were inspired by the Pattichitra, paintings from Orissa. Malini Agarwala’s collection brought into play feathers while the models wearing Archana & Pamela’s clothes wore Chands (READ headpiece worn by Ash in the song Kajra Re).

SHOULDERS : This season saw the funkiest, puffiest, frilliest and pointiest shoulders. Manas Dash’s collection ‘The Modern Tribe’ saw some pointy shoulders while Deepthi Pruthi had a dress with drop down shoulders. Innovative shoulders are the ‘it’ thing.

JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES: The runway saw jewelry and accessories turn a new leaf. With both collections of jewelry like Eina Ahluwalia’s necklace with the skull pendant and accessories like Malini Agarwala’s bags or even Rachna Reddy’s wooden clutches; they were creative and innovatively created. Also seen during the week were hints of spokes and coins in Suhani Pittie’s collection or Little Shilpa’s pop culture inspired chains with heart motifs adorned on the models.
